We just finished up a week long sprint on Persistence, a qualifying entry for Red Bull’s Creation 2013 event (http://creation.redbullusa.com).

Persistance is a six foot long robotic arm that houses 96 ultraviolet LEDs. This arm hovers over a ten foot by ten foot canvas coated in glow-in-the-dark paint. Users are able to login to our website, www.mblabs-persistence.com, create a drawing, and then watch a live stream of the machine recreating their composition.

BikeSpike:

  • Monitor your bike’s location on a map using your phone or computer, (native iOS and android app included)
  • Collision detection system can alert key members of your contact list and share the location of an accident.
  • Grant temporary access to local law enforcement, helping increase the chances of recovery.
  • Digitally “lock” your bike and receive a notification if your bike moves from its geo-fenced location or if someone even tampers with it
  • Share your stats (distance, speed, and courses…) with friends, coaches and spectators.
  • Monitor your children and get notified if they ride out of their safe zone.
  • Our open API allows developers to create gaming and fitness apps that you can download and use with the device or use the data created from the BikeSpike to integrate with the existing apps you already love. Export a GPX file.
  • PLUS, with the Hacker Pack, you can connect it to a motorcycle or other on-board batteries for a continual charge.

If you are a bike kid IN THE SLIGHTEST, you should kick these guys a few bucks.

For the past two years I’ve been slaving over this project. Our Kickstarter just went live: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1054587410/the-bikespike

If you’re a cyclist, and especially if you’re a cyclist whose had a bike stolen you’re going to love this.

Have you had a bike stolen? I’d love to document your story for a project I’m working on.

Morphield by MB Labs was created for Red Bull Creation 2012 in a live streaming 72hour build contest. Morphield is the final project by team MB Labs. It uses 135 balloons to morph the surface of the playing field moving the ball. Gameplay is similar to soccer but can be adapted using the open API for any type of game or input. I hope you enjoyed our project and will vote for us oncreation.redbullusa.com/#/?page=MBLabs

I’ll be showing ConversationPool V7:

ConversationPool uses a series of wired and wireless sensors in conjunction with leaked FBI source code to exploit trusted networks in the name of art. Once the ConversationPool hardware has been installed on a network images from user’s browsing sessions are collected and stored in a central database. Each image in the repository is analyzed for colors, shapes, and human faces. Algorithmically ConversationPool pulls what it considers to be the most interesting images and generates a new collage in real time. Image characteristics and placement of images within the collage are carefully considered as the code builds a new composition. ConversationPool is a microcosm of the internet as a whole, where user’s online habits are tracked and composited to form a digital self, all transparently and without our consent.
