Talking MobileTherm at Technori Pitch
Last November all of us over at Catalyze Chicago got sick of the glass cube windows in our main co-working space and built out a pretty cool LED window installation. The GitHub repo is available here and I wrote up quick and dirty iOS app thats available on the app store.
Big Thanks to @savannahmillion (http://sava.nnah.rocks) for my new avatar!
Had a great time speaking on the “What’s Missing” Panel at Chicago Booth’s Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Conference Seedcon.
SAIC just posted a video and article, “Go-Go Gadget Community”, about MB Labs. Take a peek.
Catalyze Chicago is live and we’re accepting applicants!
Catalyze Chicago is a co-working space built around a digital fabrication studio. We aim to support early stage hardware-focused companies through prototyping tools, education, mentorship, a network of suppliers and manufacturers, and providing a focal point to Chicago’s hardware community.
Come work with us!
Scout Alarm, a product MB Labs is helping to develop, has a nice blog post with some pictures of the prototypes we built. Check it out : http://blog.scoutalarm.com
MB Labs won the Red Bull Creation Challenge 2013! I was out in San Francisco at WWDC and couldn’t make it, but the guys had a blast and did an amazing job out in Brooklyn.
We just finished up a week long sprint on Persistence, a qualifying entry for Red Bull’s Creation 2013 event (http://creation.redbullusa.com).
Persistance is a six foot long robotic arm that houses 96 ultraviolet LEDs. This arm hovers over a ten foot by ten foot canvas coated in glow-in-the-dark paint. Users are able to login to our website, www.mblabs-persistence.com, create a drawing, and then watch a live stream of the machine recreating their composition.
BikeSpike:
- Monitor your bike’s location on a map using your phone or computer, (native iOS and android app included)
- Collision detection system can alert key members of your contact list and share the location of an accident.
- Grant temporary access to local law enforcement, helping increase the chances of recovery.
- Digitally “lock” your bike and receive a notification if your bike moves from its geo-fenced location or if someone even tampers with it

- Monitor your children and get notified if they ride out of their safe zone.
- Our open API allows developers to create gaming and fitness apps that you can download and use with the device or use the data created from the BikeSpike to integrate with the existing apps you already love. Export a GPX file.
- PLUS, with the Hacker Pack, you can connect it to a motorcycle or other on-board batteries for a continual charge.
If you are a bike kid IN THE SLIGHTEST, you should kick these guys a few bucks.
For the past two years I’ve been slaving over this project. Our Kickstarter just went live: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1054587410/the-bikespike
If you’re a cyclist, and especially if you’re a cyclist whose had a bike stolen you’re going to love this.
Update : We’re fully funded! Thank you everyone for your support!
